CBSUA GIA-FUNDED PROJECTS UNDERGO DOST-PCAARRD MONITORING, ASSESSMENT

The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA), in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD), headed by Dr. Synan S. Baguio, monitored and assessed two GIA-funded projects at the Agriville and Learning Hub Ideation Center, and conducted an onsite visit on March 19, 2025.

Dr. Marie Rachelle Jane C. Mangading presented the project titled, “Serological Evaluation of Herd Immunity Against African Swine Fever (ASF) in Backyard Pigs in Camarines Sur.” The project is aimed at assessing the herd immunity of pigs and enhancing disease control measures among backyard farming communities. The presentation involved the activities conducted, challenges faced, and accomplishments of the project to ensure the creation of more efficient alternatives and effective practices to control and prevent ASF.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mark Anthony S. Ampongan presented the project entitled, “Creating Stable Supply of Duck and Duck Eggs in Camarines Sur through itikPINAS Production,” highlighting its achievements, including benchmarking activities, financial report, and difficulties faced during the implementation period. A farm visit to itikPINAS production also created an avenue for DOST-PCAARRD to provide recommendations to enhance the facility, increase the efficiency of resources, and ensure long-term sustainability. These included enhancing biosecurity measures, adopting science-based approaches, and refining production practices to reduce mortality rates and improve overall output.

Both presenters laid out the catch-up plans to ensure the success of the projects. Mr. Erick Aguimatang, CBSUA Budget Representative, assured their continued support in managing the financial challenges effectively.

This partnership between DOST-PCAARRD and CBSUA provides a strong foundation for potential research and development projects with long-term dividends for the region’s agricultural industry. | 𝘙𝘦𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘩𝘰𝘵𝘰𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘙𝘚𝘋
