The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) College of Criminology made a valuable contribution to the Joint International Decade of Indigenous Languages (IDIL) and International Mother Language Day (IMLD) Conference, held at Sorsogon State University in Sorsogon City from March 26โ28, 2025.
Aligned with this year’s theme, โ๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐ง๐ช๐ณ๐ฎ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐๐ช๐จ๐ฉ๐ต๐ด-๐๐ข๐ด๐ฆ๐ฅ ๐๐ฆ๐ง๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฎ๐ด ๐ช๐ฏ ๐๐ข๐ฏ๐จ๐ถ๐ข๐จ๐ฆ, ๐๐ช๐ต๐ฆ๐ณ๐ข๐ค๐บ, ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ณ๐ฏ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ,โ the conference, now in its fourth iteration after previous events at UP Diliman, UP Visayas, and Caraga State University in Mindanao, provided a platform for discussing critical issues related to language, culture, and human rights.
Dr. Ricardo Ma. Duran Nolasco from UP Diliman set the stage in his opening remarks, emphasizing the vital link between the Filipino language, language rights, and cultural identity. He highlighted the conference’s timely focus on human rights within the linguistic and cultural landscape. CBSUA’s participation included a presentation by student researcher Ms. Dianne Krystel SA. Valeroso (CBSUA Sipocot) on “Social Media Utilization and Interpersonal Communication Skills of Bachelor of Science in Criminology” on the opening day.
Day two saw College Dean Dr. Dionesia R. Beraรฑa present her research, “The Participatory Management and Organizational Commitment.” Notably, several Criminology interns also contributed their research, reflecting the program’s emphasis on student inquiry. Ms. Wella May Caballero presented on “Student Leadership Role on Personal Development of Criminology Students,” Ms. Joanna Gwenn Lasat discussed the “Status of Anti-Violence Against Women and Children’s Campaign of PNP Sipocot,” and Mr. Jay Francis M. Custodio shared his findings on the “Anti Bullying Act-2013: Awareness Level and Compliance of High School Students in Sipocot.”
The CBSUA delegation, guided by Dr. Beraรฑa and program chairperson Prof. Nanies Malabana, received essential support from College Research In-Charge Mr. Edu Avis, Prof. Emmarie R. Paredes, and criminology instructor Ms. Crissa Mel Baleta.
