The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) Pasacao Campus underwent a crucial evaluation by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Quality Assessment Team (RQAT) on February 13, 2025. The RQAT assessed the campus’ proposed Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management major in Coastal Tourism program.
Campus Administrator Dr. Kristine May C. Regaspi emphasized the importance of the assessment, stating it is a vital step in securing an initial government permit to operate the program, with hopes of launching it in the upcoming academic year.
The RQAT, comprised of Dr. Karen I. Iniego, CHED Educational Program Supervisor II, and Dr. Florivel Villacorta, meticulously reviewed the program proposal
This new program complements the campus’s existing academic offerings and reinforces its focus on specialized fields. CBSUA, known primarily as an agricultural university, has been strategically expanding its allied courses. Recent additions include the BS Environmental Science program launched in 2021 and the BS Marine Biology program established in 2023. The Coastal Tourism program will further enhance the campus’s specialized areas of study.
Assist. Prof. Sheryl N. San Andres, the Campus’s Curriculum and Instruction Development Coordinator and program proponent, along with Ms. Mariel C. Pedrasa, Chairperson of the BSTM-CT Program, spearheaded the application process.
After the evaluation, the RQAT shared its findings and recommendations with the campus, highlighting areas for improvement to ensure alignment with CHED’s educational standards and quality benchmarks. The results of this assessment will determine whether CBSUA Pasacao will be authorized to offer this new and relevant program. | Report from Ms. Elaine Alarcon, Assistant PIO – Pasacao Campus
